WEC-ERA Tool
Ecological Risk Assessment tool for Wave Energy Converters
This is a open access tool for managers, decision makers and industry when assessing the suitability of Wave Energy Converters projects, in terms of the potential impacts that they can cause. The tool is based on the Ecosystem Risk Assessment of three different Wave Energy Converters technologies during their life-cycle stages (from installation to operation and decommissioning).

WESE project presents video footages of the Seafloor Integrity monitoring.  The videos were recorded close to the WaveRoller foundation and flap, the electrical cable and metallic/synthetic moorings in Peniche, Portugal. Observe natural habitats (sandy bottom, rocky bottom, reefs), several marine organisms (fish, algae, invertebrates), and biofouling growing on the artificial structures.

Press release 1 - Distributed on 20th February 2019 to announce the project launch and website and present the objectives of the project throughout its duration (from November 2018 until October 2021).
Press release 2 - Distributed on 5th June 2019 to communicate another milestone of the project: launching of environmental monitoring activities around wave energy converters in Bimep and Mutriku.
Press release 3 - Distributed on 9th March 2020 to announce the launch of the WESE & SEA Wave MARENDATA platform for ocean energy data sharing.
Press release 4 - Distributed on 22nd December 2020 to announce the monitoring campaigns in Peniche, Portugal.

WESE FINAL EVENT
The final event of the project aimed at sharing and discussing the results of the projects with key relevant stakeholders in the field of wave energies, specifically scientists, developers, and policy and decision makers.  
Two events were organized; the first event was organized in the context of the EWTEC 2021 (European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference) on the 06/09/2021 and the second event was an online event organized independently on the 28/10/2021.

Presentation by AZTI about the environmental challenges of Marine Renewables and how WESE project have set out a framework for overcoming these challenges.

Webinar: Solutions for environmental monitoring, ETIP Ocean 2 project, 19/05/2020. WESE presented the acoustic samples recorded in BIMEP as an example of underwater noise radiated by wave energy projects. More information of the event and the video presentation here.

World Maritime Week - Juan Bald, the WESE project Coordinator, attended this event in Bilbao with a poster presentation on the project main objectives. The presentation took place in the Bilbao Exhibition Centre on the 13th February 2019.
